Show HN: I trained a 125M model to autocomplete piano on-device

Show HN: I trained a 125M model to autocomplete piano on-device

I trained a 125M-parameter transformer to autocomplete piano performances in real time (~108 notes/sec on an iPhone 15). The idea is basically GitHub Copilot or Tabnine, except instead of prompting it with code, you prompt it by playing a few notes on a MIDI piano. The model then continues what you played, entirely on-device. The app is free if anyone wants to try it. Happy to answer questions about the model, training, Core ML, or the many things that didn't work.

Zombie Card Attack Can Revive Expired Visa Cards for Contactless Payments

Researchers at the University of Massachusetts Amherst have demonstrated an attack that revives expired Visa contactless credit cards for real in-store purchases by rewriting the expiration date a point-of-sale (POS) terminal reads over near-field communication (NFC), without breaking any of the card's cryptography. The attack, which the researchers named "Zombie Card," requires physical

[RELEASED] Editor Companion - A Customizable Virtual Pet for the Unity Editor

Hi everyone, I’ve released Editor Companion, an editor-only Unity tool that adds a small animated pet directly to your workspace. I wanted it to do more than simply loop an idle animation, so the companion follows what is happening inside the Editor and reacts while you work. Features Four included companions with individual profiles Floating, docked, and Scene View Overlay display modes Reactions to Play Mode, compilation, Console warnings and errors, successful builds, clicks, and inactivity Scheduled and repeating reminders Custom Pet Wizard for creating new companions from transparent PNG animation frames Profile import and export Completely editor-only, with nothing added to player builds Custom companions The included Custom Pet Wizard turns transparent PNG animation frames into a ready-to-use companion. It creates the sprite sheets, animations, transparency bounds, click regions, and configuration needed by Editor Companion. A complete Pico example is also included to demonstrate the workflow. Compatibility Unity 2022.3 LTS or newer Windows, macOS, and Linux Render-pipeline independent Editor-only On Linux, transparent floating mode requires X11 or XWayland. Docked mode and the Scene View Overlay can be used on native Wayland. itch.io : Editor Companion - Animated Pet for Unity by IMarin Labs Editor Companion is currently $10 during its launch sale through September 2. The regular price is $20. The Unity Asset Store version is currently under review. I’ll add the Asset Store link here when it becomes available. Links Installation & Setup: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2mE_1VLOM0Y How to Create a Custom Companion: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hQgIRLW5tMg I’d love to hear which companion, reaction, or Editor feature you would like to see added next. 3 posts - 2 participants Read full topic

Why "Shady AI" is Security's Next Big Governance Problem

In March 2026, an internal AI agent at Meta triggered a “Sev 1” incident after sensitive company and user data was exposed to employees who weren’t authorized to access it.  The incident began when a Meta employee posted a technical question on an internal forum. An engineer used an approved AI agent to analyze it, but the agent posted its response publicly without approval. The employee

CDN Tsunami Attack Abuses HTTP/3 Translation for Up to 350x DoS Amplification

Cybersecurity researchers have disclosed two denial-of-service (DoS) attacks that exploit how major content delivery networks (CDNs) convert client-facing HTTP/3 traffic into HTTP/1.1 requests to the websites they front, amplifying a low-bandwidth request stream by up to 350x against the origin server. The attacks, collectively named "CDN Tsunami," were evaluated against Alibaba, Baidu,

Knee osteoarthritis isn’t inevitable — here’s what you can do

Knee osteoarthritis can seriously affect mobility and quality of life, but its progression isn’t completely out of your control. Exercise, stronger leg muscles, a healthier diet, and even modest weight loss can dramatically reduce stress on the knees and help keep pain in check.

Schizophrenia’s lost brain connections follow a surprising pattern

Specialized brain scans reveal that schizophrenia is linked to widespread loss of the synapses that connect brain cells, with the left side of the brain hit especially hard. The damage follows a surprisingly organized pattern tied to the brain’s chemistry and wiring. Researchers also identified a left frontal region that may serve as a starting point for the loss.
