Dan Aykroyd Reveals What the Original Ghostbusters Costumes Looked Like

The Ghostbusters almost wore helmets. Franchise co-creator Dan Aykroyd, who also played Ray Stantz , revealed the original costume design for 1984’s Ghostbusters in a post on X . “My original conception for Ghostbusters jumpsuits and packs, illustrated by John Daveikis.

Glad we lost the helmet,” Aykroyd wrote. The color of the outfit is different from the khaki flightsuits eventually worn in the ‘84 movie. The proton pack is a different size and shape than the final version.

Aykroyd co-wrote the original Ghostbusters screenplay with Harold Ramis, who would go on to play Egon Spengler. The movie was almost called Ghostblasters or Ghoststoppers due to rights issues.
